5 TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE BEST FAN FOR YOUR SPACE
1. Respect the room space:
When it comes to buying a fan, it is important to take into account the size of the room, the distance from the ceiling and its furniture. These measurements must be taken into account in accordance with the diameter of the blades of the fan in question:
– For rooms from 17.6 to 28 m2, the diameter has to be greater than 132cm
– For rooms from 13 to 17.6m2, the diameter has to be 107 to 132 cm
– And for smaller rooms, less than 13 m2, the diameter has to be less than 107 cm
– For outdoor spaces, such as terraces, entrances or porches, it is very important for the fan to have IP44 so that it is ready for environmental adversities such as humidity.
It is also important to respect the 20 cm distance between the fan blades and the furniture, or the fan and the wall. This is the minimum distance to ensure optimal air movement.
2. The importance of a sloping ceiling:
If the fan is going to be installed in a room with a sloping ceiling, we must take into account whether the chosen model is suitable for said room. The rosette of fans suitable for sloping ceilings enable certain degrees of sloping in order to adjust the stem. Its installation is the same when the ceiling is not sloping, but should just be adjusted as required.
The number of blades directly influences the amount of breeze: fewer blades, more air. For example, the model which has two blades, is ideal for big spaces. Fans with more blades, (for example five), serve to lightly cool rooms down.
Also, some fans change blade movement direction, and include the reverse function to improve the heating system in winter: there are two types of fans, some where this function is activated via the control and others where in order to change the direction of the blades, you need to activate the switch located above the motor.
4. DC motor
There are motors that are more efficient than others. Fans with a DC motor are usually characterised by being more efficient and enabling more speeds. While they are more silent, this does not mean that AC ones are not. Both are motors and, therefore, generate a small monotonous noise that is suitable for sleeping.
5. Consumption
Fan consumption depends primarily on two factors:
– Speed of operations. Most fans have at least three speeds, but there are models that have more, such as six. It depends on the room where you want to install it and this needs to be taken into account. If it is in a bedroom, it is better to have one that consumes little and makes little noise, but if it is for a common space, we will need one that has different speeds and projects much more air.
– Whether or not it has light. Fans with a light are a good option because they resolve two issues at the same time.
